Hi Dave. It was included in the May Bulletin which went out on 16 May 2020 so is located with the "Bulletin Archive" section. If you have any trouble finding it please pop me an e mail and I will send a link directly to you.
Hopefully you have now had sight of the paper which was published yesterday setting out the 2021 Affiliation Fee and other charges. This also set out the background and sought to explain the conflicting challenges which the Trustees were seeking to balance around this. On a broader scale the guidance document has tried to pull together some options and considerations with regard to your own local subscriptions.
We are working closely with the Trustee Board around this as they seek to balance the difficult financial decisions against the need to provide certainty to Societies at a time when everything is far from certain.
The fee is a share of the organisational costs and the vast majority of these are fixed costs. Staff remain fully deployed in most cases on support activities and developments such as this website and the online lecturers, however, we are working hard to secure savings.
The fee is also heavily discounted by the commercial revenues which are generated by the two subsidiaries. The amount of the subsidy is currently around £4 (so the cost of services is actually about £17.80) but currently the tour market has collapsed and the advertising market is likely to follow. This and the situation with the stock market which has seen the portfolio value reduce significantly is going to significantly impact on the reserves.
Im more than happy to provide help and advice to any Society and can be contacted at any time.
Hi Tim,
Many thanks... is it possible you can kindly send a link?
