I wonder what you've most enjoyed on-line while we've all been isolating at home. The good weather meant I've spent plenty of time in the garden - as have many members to whom I have spoken. The garden looks rather tidier as a result but I haven't followed up as much of the on-line art as I might otherwise. But I did specially enjoy the National Theatre's imaginative production of Jane Eyre and the singing in Cosi Fan Tutte from the Royal Opera House (but not the set, which I thought drab). I also caught the YouTube re-run of the 25th anniversary production of The Phantom of the Opera from the Albert Hall. Lovely to see at the end Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman from the original cast.
Of course, for me a highlight was also the replay of two of England's greatest cricket days from last summer......
This week I'm hoping to get into more of the on-line art talks. Then there is that pesky art quiz to work on ....
You are in for a real treat with this! This is without a doubt the most incredible piece of writing I've ever read. Because of you, it is turning out to be a much better day.

Has anyone else seen any of The Joy of Painting series with Bob Russ - 7.30 on BBC4? This American painter produces finished landscapes in half an hour before your eyes, mainly using a two inch brush and a kind of scaper - not really a palette knife. I found it quite mesmerising, even if the results are all rather chocolate box scenes - and you can get a little tired of his descriptions. Do have a look at one - there are 26 episodes to choose from on iPlayer.
Yes, the lecture went fantastically well and it is really encouraging that so many members 'tuned in'. Plans are now in progress for our next Online lecture which will be on July 16th. More details to follow.
I'm delighted that so many members were able to watch our first on-line lecture last week and gave such positive feedback. Sian Walters gave us an excellent talk on the Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao and the architecture of Frank Gehry. Knowing that some will have watched as a couple, we had an audience of 87 plus 3 guests from the commitee of The Arts Society Hants and IoW Area, as we were the first in our Area to run an on-line lecture. We hope to arrange another one for July
I've also just watched the latest Arts Society talk. Rebcca Hossack, whose London home itself houses a major collection of Aboriginal Art, talked about Aboriginal Art - recording the Dreamtime. Another fascinating talk which at times really stirred the emotions. Highly recommended.
Thanks Peter. I have been delighted to be able to see all of the National Theatre at Home productions and particularly enjoyed Twelfth Night' and also Anthony Cleopatra' which I did see live last year. The set for 'Treasure Island' was fantastic and the production of Jane Eyre was really innovative. I also enjoyed seeing 'Romeo and Juliet' at the Globe. I haven't watched any opera yet but did see 'Phantom of The Opera' on Youtube. Having seen the show three times live it was wonderful to be able to watch all of the actors in close up.. There are definitely some advantages of seeing performances online though of course nothing beats the real thing. The short Art lectures on this website have been interesting and likewise Sian Walters Monday morning talks are well-worth watching.
There are now an amazing number of art-related things to see on line and the TV though I haven't watched nearly as many as I would like. Ones I have really enjoyed have been the fornightly AS lecturer talks and AS and National Gallery lecturer Sian Walters' talks at 09.30 on a Monday morning (but availalbe anytime thereafter). She's been taking a different well-known painting each week and offering (to me at least) fresh insights. You can see the talks here.
I've also enjoyed, in a different way, Grayson Perry's Art Club - Mondays on Channel 4. While not everything people send in necessarily strikes a harmonious chord, he's such a good and enthusastic presenter and his own work so imaginative that I find it really lifts the spirits.
